Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday alleged that a poster circulating in Uttar Pradesh claiming to show Congress's poll projections for the state was fake, describing it as evidence of political desperation. Sharing visuals of the disputed poster on social media platform X, Yadav suggested the alliance between Congress and other opposition parties had caused significant concern within the Bharatiya Janata Party, though he questioned the authenticity of the material being circulated.
Yadav demanded that senior municipal administration officials in Uttar Pradesh be suspended in connection with the poster's distribution, without providing specific details about the officials or the exact circumstances of its display. The move appeared aimed at highlighting what he characterized as dishonest campaigning tactics ahead of electoral contests in the state.
The allegation comes amid heightened political activity in Uttar Pradesh, where opposition coalitions have been attempting to strengthen their positioning. The Samajwadi Party, which holds considerable influence in the state, has been vocal about challenging the ruling BJP's electoral dominance through various means, including public statements and administrative complaints.
