Alcaraz was handed a walkover into the last eight of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament after Berrettini's withdrawal, sparing the world number one from a third-round contest at the French capital event.
The Italian player's injury forced him to step aside from the match, allowing Alcaraz to progress without taking to the court. Berrettini's withdrawal came ahead of the scheduled encounter between the two players.
The walkover keeps Alcaraz on course in his bid for the Paris Masters title. The Spaniard, seeded first at the tournament, will face his quarter-final opponent in the coming rounds.
Berrettini's withdrawal marks another instance of player injury disrupting competition at the prestigious event, which continues to draw top-ranked talent from across the professional tennis circuit.
