Alcaraz dominated his opening encounter at the Austrian tournament, dispatching Khachanov 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) to set up a quarter-final berth. The Spanish competitor controlled proceedings throughout, breaking his Russian opponent's serve strategically and holding firm during the tiebreak in the second set.
In a separate first-round clash, Zverev proved too strong for Martin Landaluce despite a mid-match wobble. The German secured a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (13/11) result in a marathon encounter, outlasting Landaluce in a decisive final-set tiebreak that extended to 13 points.
The victories represent solid progress for both seeded contenders as the Vienna Open enters its knockout stages. Alcaraz's efficiency and Zverev's resilience in extended exchanges underscore the high-calibre competition typical of the tournament.
