All-woman SIT to lead probe into Gem Granites chief's POCSO case

The Tamil Nadu Police has formed an all-woman Special Investigation Team (SIT) to take over the investigation into a POCSO Act case involving Gem Granites promoter Veeramani, according to an order issued by Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal on Friday.

The constitution of the SIT, comprising only female officers, is intended to facilitate a more effective and comprehensive probe into the case and related matters, the DGP said in the order. The decision reflects efforts to ensure sensitive handling of cases involving alleged offences against minors.

The all-woman team will supersede the original investigating officers and oversee all proceedings related to the allegations against Veeramani. The specific nature of the charges and timeline of events leading to the formation of the SIT were not immediately detailed in the official announcement.

The move comes as part of broader initiatives across Indian police departments to enhance investigative protocols in cases registered under the POCSO Act, particularly by involving trained female personnel who are often considered better equipped to handle such sensitive investigations involving child protection matters.
