Saurabh Chandrakar, the principal accused in the high-profile Mahadev betting application case, arrived in India on Wednesday after being extradited from Oman, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation into one of the country's largest illegal gambling operations.
Chandrakar was apprehended in Oman based on a Red Corner Notice issued by the CBI through Interpol. Omani law enforcement authorities detained him following the international alert, which preceded his formal extradition to Indian authorities.
The Mahadev app has been at the centre of an extensive investigation by the CBI into allegations of widespread illegal betting and gambling operations. The application reportedly operated across multiple Indian states, generating substantial illicit revenue through its digital platform.
The extradition process was completed after Omani authorities confirmed Chandrakar's identity and processed the necessary legal formalities required for his transfer to India. He is expected to face interrogation by CBI officials regarding his alleged role in establishing and managing the betting network.
The case forms part of a larger crackdown on online gambling operations in India, with authorities intensifying efforts to dismantle illegal betting syndicates operating through mobile applications and digital platforms.
