Amanah warns Melaka voters of BN's political instability track record

Amanah president Muhammad Sabu has urged Melaka voters to learn from political instability triggered by Barisan Nasional in neighbouring Negeri Sembilan, warning that the ruling coalition's actions mirror tactics used in previous power grabs. Speaking ahead of electoral contests in the state, Sabu drew parallels between BN's retraction of support for the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar in April and the controversial Sheraton Move of 2020, which destabilised the federal government.

The sudden withdrawal of backing for the state's chief minister sparked a political crisis in Negeri Sembilan, forcing a change in leadership and raising questions about the stability of BN-led administrations. Sabu characterised the move as symptomatic of deeper problems within the ruling coalition's approach to governance.

The Amanah leader's comments reflect broader opposition concerns about political reliability and institutional stability ahead of Melaka's electoral cycle. He argued that voters should consider these precedents when evaluating which coalitions could provide consistent, principled governance.

The warning underscores ongoing tensions between Malaysia's political blocs over questions of legitimacy and political conduct, with the opposition positioning itself as a more stable alternative to BN's record of internal political manoeuvring.
