Amazon India has commenced operations on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor following the flagging off of its inaugural train at New Dadri Railway Station, in partnership with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd, a Ministry of Railways public sector undertaking.
The move positions Amazon as the first e-commerce company to operate on the newly launched Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service train on the corridor. The daily rail service will deploy over ten van parcels across the route, connecting Amazon's distribution network spanning Delhi, Ahmedabad and Surat, with onward reach to Pune, Mumbai and Goa.
By shifting parcel movements from surface transportation to rail, the service aims to strengthen multimodal logistics capabilities while reducing environmental impact. The initiative is expected to enhance supply chain reliability during the upcoming festive season, when e-commerce volumes typically surge across India.
The expansion reflects Amazon's ongoing investment in diversifying its transportation infrastructure. Through rail-based logistics, the company seeks to improve delivery efficiency across northern and western regions while tapping into the operational advantages offered by dedicated freight corridors being developed across the country.
