Ambuklao and Binga dams release water as Agno River Basin floods threaten

The Ambuklao Dam in Bokod, Benguet opened eight sluice gates on Monday morning as reservoir levels climbed following heavy rainfall, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). As of 8 a.m., the dam's water level reached 750.70 meters above sea level, marking a notable increase from previous measurements.

The Binga Dam, also located in the province, similarly opened its gates in response to rising water levels across the region. The coordinated releases are intended to prevent the dams from reaching critical capacity while managing downstream flow along the Agno River Basin.

Pagesa has placed the Agno River Basin on flood watch as a precautionary measure. Residents in low-lying areas and communities downstream from both facilities have been advised to exercise caution and remain alert for potential flooding as water flows increase through the system.

The dam operations reflect ongoing efforts by water resource managers to balance water supply and safety during the monsoon season. Authorities continue to monitor water levels and weather conditions to determine if further measures will be necessary.
