Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday commended the Chandigarh Police for establishing exemplary standards that other law enforcement agencies across India should emulate. Speaking at the force's 60th Raising Day event, Shah underscored the department's contributions to maintaining public order and enhancing police performance nationally.
The occasion marked a significant milestone for the regional police force, which was established six decades ago. Shah's recognition of the department's achievements reflected the Centre's acknowledgment of effective policing practices in the union territory.
During the ceremony, Shah conferred the President's Colour upon the Chandigarh Police, a ceremonial honour recognising the force's distinguished service and dedication. The President's Colour, one of India's highest honours for paramilitary and police organisations, signifies exceptional performance and commitment to national objectives.
Speaking at the gathering, Shah emphasised the importance of professional policing and institutional excellence. His remarks highlighted how the Chandigarh Police has managed to balance public safety with modern law enforcement practices, positioning itself as a model for other police forces operating across India's diverse regions.
The Home Minister's address underscored the Centre's continued focus on strengthening internal security and supporting state and union territory police forces in their operational capabilities.
