Amul raises ghee and butter prices citing production cost pressures
India's leading dairy cooperative Amul has implemented a significant price increase on ghee and butter, effective November 2, attributing the move to elevated milk production expenses. The price hike marks another adjustment in dairy product costs for Indian consumers.

Amul has increased the retail price of ghee by ₹40 per litre, with a one-litre pack now retailing at ₹680. Butter prices have been raised by ₹15 for a 500-gram pack, the company announced. The increases take effect from November 2.
The cooperative cited rising milk production costs as the primary reason for the price adjustment. Milk procurement expenses have been a persistent pressure on dairy producers across India, driven by feed costs, veterinary expenses, and labour charges in the dairy sector.
Amul, which supplies dairy products to consumers across multiple states, regularly reviews its pricing structure in response to input cost variations. The price movement impacts a significant portion of Indian households that rely on dairy products as staple food items.
The dairy sector has faced mounting cost pressures in recent months, with multiple producers citing elevated operational expenses. Industry observers expect continued volatility in dairy product pricing as producers navigate fluctuating input costs and market demand dynamics.
