Amul raises prices on ghee, butter ahead of Diwali season

Amul, one of India's largest dairy cooperatives, has implemented across-the-board price increases on its milk and milk products, dealing consumers a substantial blow during the pre-Diwali shopping season. The price adjustment affects a wide range of items in the company's portfolio, with ghee experiencing particularly steep increases.
The ghee price surge of up to 50 rupees represents one of the largest single-item increases in the price adjustment. While the company did not issue an official statement detailing the revised pricing structure, multiple product categories including butter and other dairy items have seen their retail prices adjusted upward.
The timing of the price increase coincides with the festive season when demand for dairy products typically peaks, as ghee and butter are traditional staples in Indian kitchens during Diwali preparations and celebrations. Consumer purchases of premium dairy items generally surge during this period.
The move reflects ongoing pressures on dairy producers stemming from feed costs and other input expenses. Several major dairy companies in India have announced price revisions in recent months as operating costs have risen.
