MANILA — A forensic financial analyst presented evidence during Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment hearing that she and her husband, Manases Carpio, allegedly failed to declare over P817 million in assets and funds of unclear origin since taking office in June 2022.

The testimony, delivered before the impeachment court on Friday, centered on an analysis of the vice president's financial records spanning her initial years as the country's second-highest official. Among the undisclosed holdings were more than P207 million reportedly held jointly by Duterte and Carpio, according to the analyst's findings.

The allegations form part of the formal impeachment case filed against the vice president, which encompasses questions about the source and proper documentation of substantial wealth accumulated during her tenure. The presentation of forensic financial analysis represents a significant phase in the proceedings as prosecutors attempt to establish patterns of potential financial impropriety.

Duterte has faced mounting scrutiny regarding her financial disclosures and asset declarations required of public officials in the Philippines. The vice president previously expressed willingness to cooperate with investigations into her finances and has maintained that her wealth comes from legitimate sources.
