Anant Nag becomes second Kannada actor to win Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Anant Nag has been conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's most prestigious honour in cinema, marking a significant milestone for Kannada cinema. The recognition places Nag among the select few actors from Karnataka to receive the national award, which carries with it a certificate of honour, a shawl, and a monetary prize.

Dr. Rajkumar, the legendary Kannada cinema icon, remains the only other actor from the Kannada film industry to have received this distinction when he was honoured in 1995. Despite the strong contributions of numerous Kannada performers to Indian cinema over the past three decades, the award has eluded the state's acting fraternity until now.

While Karnataka has produced other recipients of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, cinematographer V.K. Murthy was recognised in 2008 for his extensive work in Hindi cinema rather than Kannada productions. This distinction underscores how rarely the award recognizes achievements primarily rooted in regional cinema industries outside of Hindi film.

Anant Nag's career spans several decades in Kannada cinema, during which he has established himself as one of the industry's most respected performers. The award acknowledges his substantial contributions to Indian cinema and his role in elevating the standards of regional film production.
