Andhra CM inaugurates revamped water supply scheme for 97,000 in Kakinada

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan inaugurated the upgraded water supply scheme at Nagulapalli on Thursday, marking a significant step toward addressing chronic water shortages in the region. The project, which has been operational for three decades but failed to adequately service peripheral villages, has undergone comprehensive modernisation to improve distribution efficiency.
The revamped infrastructure will now extend safe drinking water to 52 habitations across the Pithapuram area, benefiting approximately 97,000 residents in Kakinada district. Officials attributed the previous scheme's shortcomings to ageing infrastructure and inadequate pressure systems that prevented water from reaching tail-end villages, leaving many communities dependent on alternative sources.
The ₹9.59-crore investment includes upgrades to pipelines, water treatment facilities, and distribution networks designed to ensure equitable access across all connected habitations. The modernisation project is expected to reduce water loss through leakage and improve water quality through enhanced purification processes.
The scheme's revival addresses long-standing grievances from rural communities in the district, where water access has been a persistent development challenge. Officials stated that the project would be monitored regularly to ensure consistent service delivery and maintenance standards across all 52 villages.
