Andhra Deputy CM orders pollution study of Godavari River

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has been tasked with collecting and analysing water samples from the Godavari River as part of a systematic pollution assessment ordered by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The environmental survey will span a broad geographic scope, encompassing samples from the Godavari mainstream, 15 major drainage channels, and 45 minor drains that feed into the river system. The sampling programme aims to establish baseline data on pollution levels and identify specific pollution sources affecting the river.

The scientific analysis will provide detailed documentation of water quality parameters and help authorities understand the nature and extent of contamination in one of South India's major river systems. The findings are expected to inform future environmental management and remediation efforts.

The Godavari River, which flows through multiple states including Andhra Pradesh, has faced increasing pressure from industrial discharge, agricultural runoff, and urban sewage. The comprehensive study represents a step toward addressing water quality concerns in the river basin.
