Andhra floods destroy crops across 13,000 acres in Srikakulam district

Flooding in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district has ravaged agricultural land across 13,000 acres, according to the state's Agriculture Department. The inundation has caused severe damage to standing paddy crops, with waterlogging turning the grain black and rendering large portions of the harvest unusable.

Joint Director of Agriculture confirmed the extent of the damage during an assessment of the affected areas. The department has identified the widespread waterlogging as a primary concern, with stagnant water creating conditions that accelerate crop deterioration and disease spread among the standing grain.

Once water levels recede from the flooded fields, the Agriculture Department plans to deploy drones to spray nutrients across the affected areas. The strategy aims to salvage remaining crops and restore soil fertility to prepare land for subsequent cultivation cycles.

The floods underscore the vulnerability of Srikakulam's agricultural sector to heavy rainfall and inadequate drainage infrastructure. Officials are continuing to monitor water levels and coordinate relief efforts with local farming communities across the impacted region.
