The historic Arasavalli Sun temple in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district is set to undergo significant development with an allocation of ₹55.74 crore under the central government's Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. The comprehensive modernisation project aims to enhance the pilgrimage experience while preserving the temple's cultural and architectural heritage.
Planned infrastructure improvements include construction of a dedicated sun experience centre designed to educate visitors about solar worship and the temple's religious significance. The project also encompasses development of the Nagavali riverfront adjacent to the temple, which officials hope will create additional attractions and recreational spaces for pilgrims and tourists.
Among the restoration efforts is the protection and conservation of a Dutch heritage structure within the temple complex, reflecting the site's layered historical importance. These interventions form part of a broader strategy to position Arasavalli as a major pilgrimage destination capable of accommodating increased visitor numbers.
Government officials expect the comprehensive redevelopment to significantly boost footfall to the temple, drawing devotees and heritage enthusiasts from across the country. The project underscores the central government's commitment to upgrading major religious sites with modern amenities while maintaining their historical integrity.
