Andhra Pradesh assesses ₹4,600 crore cyclone damage as federal team arrives

Andhra Pradesh has pegged the estimated financial loss from Cyclone Arnab at ₹4,600 crore as damage assessment operations continue across affected districts. The state government has requested assistance from neighbouring Telangana, seeking deployment of approximately 1,000 personnel to expedite power restoration efforts in the Godavari region, which bore the brunt of the cyclonic system.

A central team is scheduled to arrive in Andhra Pradesh on October 30 to conduct an independent assessment of the cyclone's impact. Such evaluations by federal authorities are typically conducted to verify state-level damage estimates and determine eligibility for national disaster relief funds.

The cyclone has disrupted essential services across multiple districts, with power infrastructure among the most severely affected. The state's appeal to Telangana highlights the scale of restoration work required, as widespread outages continue to hamper recovery operations in the Godavari belt.

Official damage reports remain preliminary, with complete assessments still underway. Authorities have prioritized the restoration of electricity supply to critical facilities and affected communities as part of immediate relief measures.
