The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal strengthens and moves towards the eastern coast. The depression is forecast to escalate into a severe cyclonic storm within 24 hours, adding to the region's recent weather woes following cyclone Arnab.
According to meteorological projections, the cyclone is expected to make landfall between Narsapur in Chittoor district and Nellore on November 3. Maximum wind speeds are anticipated to reach 120 kilometres per hour, posing significant risks to coastal areas, agriculture, and infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
The timing of the system comes just weeks after cyclone Arnab battered the same region, causing considerable damage to crops, homes, and public property. State authorities have begun issuing advisories to fishermen, urging them to return to shore, and are preparing evacuation plans for vulnerable coastal communities.
District administrations have been placed on alert to coordinate relief operations and pre-position resources in anticipation of the cyclone's impact. Schools and colleges in affected areas may be closed as a precautionary measure, and emergency response teams are on standby to address any immediate needs arising from the severe weather system.
