Andhra Pradesh civic polls conclude peacefully despite isolated violence

Polling for municipal elections across Andhra Pradesh concluded on Monday with the State Election Commission reporting an overall turnout of 48.03 per cent by 3 p.m. Voting took place across 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats, covering major urban centres in the state.

Despite the largely peaceful conduct of elections, sporadic incidents of violence were recorded at 40 locations. The SEC documented 275 First Information Reports in connection with these clashes, though the exact nature and severity of the incidents were not immediately detailed.

Following the conclusion of polling, opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy raised concerns about irregularities in Pulivendula constituency and demanded a recount of votes in the segment. His plea came amid ongoing scrutiny of electoral procedures during the polling day.

The State Election Commission said repolling, if warranted following investigation into the reported incidents, would be conducted on November 2. The commission did not immediately specify which constituencies or polling stations might face fresh elections based on the FIRs filed.
