Andhra Pradesh CM directs unified water management strategy across sectors
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed state officials to develop an integrated water resources plan addressing drinking water, irrigation and industrial requirements simultaneously. The directive comes as the government accelerates multiple water supply and infrastructure projects across the state.

Naidu has ordered a comprehensive water management plan that consolidates the state's competing demands for potable water supplies, agricultural irrigation and industrial consumption. State officials have been tasked with ensuring these three critical sectors receive coordinated resource allocation rather than operating in silos.
The chief minister has also prioritized acceleration of Visakhapatnam's water supply augmentation programme, recognising the coastal city's growing consumption needs. Enhanced distribution infrastructure and source development form key components of the accelerated timeline.
Simultaneously, Naidu has pressed for expedited completion of the Polavaram multipurpose project, instructing officials to meet a March deadline for ongoing construction phases. The project, spanning multiple districts, is expected to significantly augment irrigation capacity and hydroelectric generation once fully operational.
The integrated approach signals the government's intent to address chronic water stress across Andhra Pradesh through synchronised development of sources, storage and distribution networks. Officials have been directed to monitor progress closely and report implementation status regularly.
