Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has issued directions to state officials to implement a comprehensive water conservation strategy centred on irrigation projects and their downstream water bodies. The initiative aims to maximise the utilisation of seasonal rainfall to replenish reservoirs and water bodies in regions served by major irrigation schemes.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to deploy mobile water-lifting equipment in areas where gravity-fed irrigation systems are insufficient or unavailable. This approach would ensure more efficient water distribution during monsoon seasons when substantial inflows into rivers and streams are anticipated across the state.
Alongside the infrastructure modifications, Naidu has called for continuous real-time monitoring systems to track water inflows and optimise resource management. Officials have been directed to maintain vigilance during the monsoon period to capitalise on natural water availability and prevent wastage.
The directive reflects the state government's focus on addressing water scarcity challenges during dry seasons by building up reserves during periods of high rainfall. The multi-pronged approach combines infrastructure adaptation with systematic monitoring to enhance water security across Andhra Pradesh's agricultural and rural regions.
