The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has ordered an immediate inquiry after a mass illness outbreak was linked to the distribution of anti-malaria drugs in Gollaguppa village. Health officials administered the medication to 71 residents as part of a disease prevention campaign, but a significant number subsequently reported health complications.
Following the incident, 29 patients were transferred to Bhadrachalam Area Hospital for treatment, while 24 others were admitted to the Lakshmipuram Primary Health Centre. The hospitalizations prompted swift administrative action to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drug distribution program.
The state government has not yet disclosed the specific nature of the illnesses reported or preliminary findings from the ongoing inquiry. Medical teams have been engaged to assess the patients' conditions and determine whether adverse reactions to the medication or other factors contributed to the outbreak.
