Andhra Pradesh CM pledges expanded political representation for backwards castes
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reiterated his government's commitment to enhancing political opportunities for backwards castes (BCs) across all levels of governance, while criticizing the previous YSRCP administration for failing to deliver on social justice promises.

Naidu said the coalition government has positioned social justice as a cornerstone of its policy agenda, with plans to increase BC participation in elected bodies ranging from village panchayats to the national Parliament. The Chief Minister framed expanded political representation for backwards castes as essential to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring equitable governance across Andhra Pradesh.
Criticizing the previous YSRCP government, Naidu alleged that the former administration had betrayed the interests of backwards castes despite electoral promises. He contended that his current administration was reversing what he characterized as policy neglect under the previous dispensation.
The remarks underscore ongoing political competition in Andhra Pradesh over social justice issues, with competing coalitions emphasizing their commitment to reserved seats and political empowerment of backward communities. Naidu's push for expanded BC representation reflects broader efforts by the coalition government to consolidate support among traditionally marginalized groups ahead of future electoral contests.
The issue of BC reservations and political representation has remained contentious in Andhra Pradesh politics, with various governments pledging enhanced opportunities while implementation has often faced legal and administrative challenges.
