Andhra Pradesh collector defends data collection for fair local elections

Vizianagaram Collector Ramsundar Reddy has clarified that the collection of sensitive polling booth data is a necessary measure to guarantee free and fair elections in the district. The data-gathering exercise is part of routine electoral preparations being undertaken by the administration ahead of the scheduled local body polls.

The upcoming elections will span multiple levels of local governance structures. Voting will take place for representatives to the Nellimarla and Rajam Nagara Panchayats, along with contests for 27 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies and several Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies across the district.

The collection of polling booth-related information is intended to strengthen electoral oversight mechanisms and identify potential vulnerabilities that could compromise the integrity of the voting process. Such preparatory measures typically include documentation of booth locations, infrastructure assessments, and security arrangements.

Election officials maintain that systematic data collection enables authorities to deploy appropriate resources and personnel to ensure smooth conduct of polling operations. The initiative underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining democratic standards during the local body elections.
