Contract health workers in Andhra Pradesh have paused their strike after holding discussions with state officials, signalling a willingness to resolve long-standing grievances through dialogue. The workers' Joint Action Committee (JAC) made the decision to suspend the agitation while keeping the door open for further negotiations.
According to the JAC, the decision to pause the strike does not constitute a withdrawal of their primary demands. The committee has instead chosen to give the government an opportunity to address the workers' concerns through formal discussions and negotiations.
The strike, which had impacted health services across the state, highlighted longstanding issues affecting contract health staff, including employment security, salary regularisation, and working conditions. The temporary suspension reflects cautious optimism that the government may be willing to engage constructively on these matters.
The JAC has indicated it will monitor progress during the negotiation period. Should discussions fail to yield meaningful results on core issues, the workers have signalled readiness to resume industrial action. Officials from the state health department are expected to formally engage with worker representatives in coming days to chart a path forward.
