Andhra Pradesh customs seizes smuggled Bangladesh gold; five held

Customs officials operating near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh intercepted a major smuggling operation, recovering 3.1 kg of gold and arresting five suspects in coordinated enforcement actions. The seizures point to an active smuggling network routing contraband from Bangladesh through the state's transport corridors.

Three men traveling on a Hyderabad-bound bus were found concealing the yellow metal around their waists during a routine check. The passengers, whose identities have not been disclosed, were apprehended with the gold still secured to their bodies. Officials said the method of concealment suggested an organized operation rather than opportunistic smuggling.

In a separate but related operation, two additional suspects were detained while transporting foreign currency in a Scorpio vehicle. The cash, reportedly hidden within the SUV, was also seized as part of the investigation. Authorities are examining connections between the two cases to determine if they are part of a larger smuggling syndicate.

The gold seizure adds to growing concerns over contraband movement through Andhra Pradesh's transport networks. Officials have indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the smuggling ring and trace the ultimate destination of the contraband within India.
