Andhra Pradesh extends ULB poll nomination window following Supreme Court directive

The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has extended the nomination filing window for urban local body (ULB) elections in four key municipalities, acting on directions from the Supreme Court of India. The move affects candidates contesting in Kadapa, Rajampet, Mydukur, and Tirupati.

According to the revised schedule, candidates can now file their nomination papers on October 23 and 24 between 11 am and 3 pm. The submissions will be accepted at designated locations within respective Collectorates in each municipality, ensuring accessible filing arrangements for all prospective candidates.

The extension of the nomination window comes as the SEC sought to address concerns raised in the apex court regarding the adequacy of time provided to candidates for filing procedures. The Supreme Court's intervention underscores the importance of ensuring sufficient opportunity for candidates to participate in the democratic electoral process across urban local bodies.

This development is part of the broader schedule for ULB elections in Andhra Pradesh, with the state election body working to balance procedural requirements with candidate accessibility and participation. The extension reflects the commission's commitment to conducting elections in a transparent and inclusive manner while adhering to judicial guidelines.
