Andhra Pradesh faces severe monsoon deficit as scattered showers expected

Andhra Pradesh is grappling with a severe rainfall shortage as the monsoon season progresses, data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed on Wednesday. During the first 16 days of October, the state recorded a mere 18.1 mm of precipitation against the climatological normal of 86.8 mm, representing a shortfall of 79%.

The significant deficit comes as the region continues to rely on seasonal rainfall for agricultural activities and water management. The IMD has forecast only scattered to isolated heavy rainfall in certain pockets of the state in the near term, offering limited relief to drought-affected areas.

Official sources indicate that the below-normal precipitation poses concerns for farmers and water resources across the state. Agricultural departments are monitoring the situation closely, with reservoir levels and soil moisture conditions becoming critical factors as the post-monsoon period approaches.

Meteorological officials cautioned that the erratic rainfall pattern observed this season underscores the broader climate variability affecting the region. While some areas may experience heavy downpours, the overall outlook remains concerning for districts dependent on consistent seasonal precipitation for their water and food security needs.
