Andhra Pradesh faces severe monsoon deficit with only 46 rainy days recorded

Andhra Pradesh has recorded a substantial rainfall deficit this monsoon season, with the state experiencing precipitation on only 46 days out of the 122-day monsoon period, according to latest data. This falls significantly short of the normal range of 75 to 90 rainy days expected during the season, raising concerns about agricultural output and water availability across the state.

The rainfall distribution has been highly uneven across the region. Visakhapatnam district recorded only a single day of very heavy rainfall during the entire season, while Annamayya district experienced just 11 rainy days. The sparse precipitation highlights the erratic nature of this year's monsoon, with several districts facing severe water stress.

The India Meteorological Department has added to concerns by forecasting below-normal rainfall for October, suggesting that relief may not come soon. The deficient monsoon poses challenges for agriculture-dependent communities and water management authorities across the state. Farmers and agricultural officials are closely monitoring the situation as the insufficient rainfall threatens crop productivity and water reserves heading into the drier months.
