Andhra Pradesh floods devastate crops, damage thousands of kilometres of roads

Heavy flooding in Andhra Pradesh has wrought extensive damage to agricultural lands and critical infrastructure, with preliminary estimates placing the scale of destruction at unprecedented levels. Crop damage has been reported across 1,229 villages spanning 190 mandals, impacting approximately 71,796 farmers whose livelihoods depend on the current harvest season.
Beyond agricultural losses, the flooding has compromised road networks across the state, with approximately 2,405 kilometres of roads damaged or rendered impassable. These disruptions threaten to impede relief and supply operations in affected areas while raising concerns about connectivity to remote villages.
The situation has been compounded by a fresh surge in the Godavari river, one of South India's major waterways, which continues to overflow its banks. The renewed rise in water levels poses ongoing risks to downstream communities and agricultural areas, with authorities maintaining heightened alert status.
State officials are coordinating relief operations and conducting detailed damage assessments to determine the full extent of losses. The preliminary figures are expected to be revised as comprehensive surveys progress across the affected districts.
