Andhra Pradesh Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy announced the formation of a high-level cabinet committee tasked with resolving the crisis of approximately 11 lakh vacant house sites languishing under the PMAY-NTR Nagars programme across the state.
The committee will examine multiple strategies to address the accumulated backlog, including consolidating scattered plots to improve their utility and marketability. Officials said the panel would also seek direct feedback from current beneficiaries regarding obstacles preventing them from utilising their allocated sites.
A key focus area involves reviewing and potentially cancelling registrations of house sites that remain unused, freeing up resources for more productive allocation. This measure aims to prevent indefinite speculation and ensure the scheme's objectives are better served.
Parthasarathy highlighted that nearly two lakh applicants are still awaiting house site allocations under the scheme. The committee's recommendations are expected to streamline the process and address the needs of these pending applicants more efficiently.
The PMAY-NTR Nagars scheme, a flagship urban housing initiative, has faced persistent implementation challenges across multiple states. The formation of this dedicated committee signals the Andhra Pradesh government's commitment to reviving the programme and ensuring its successful completion.
