Andhra Pradesh gives liquor vendors two extra days for shop renewal

The Andhra Pradesh excise department has granted a two-day extension to liquor shop proprietors seeking renewal for the fiscal year 2026-27, pushing the fresh deadline to September 23. The extension comes as authorities work to boost compliance among retailers whose licenses are set to expire.

According to official data, 3,173 of the 3,650 notified liquor shops have applied for renewal, indicating strong interest in continuing operations during the forthcoming financial year. However, payment collection remains incomplete, with 2,726 outlets having remitted their renewal fees in full or in part.

The state's excise revenue target for shop renewals stands at ₹933.44 crore for the 2026-27 period. To date, approximately ₹676 crore has been collected, leaving an outstanding amount of ₹257 crore. The deadline extension is intended to facilitate last-minute submissions and clear the backlog of pending payments before the final cutoff.

Liquor shop renewals form a significant component of the state's excise revenue. The extended timeline allows retailers who have delayed applications to complete formalities without facing penalties or license cancellations. Officials have urged remaining shop owners to submit their renewal applications and payment at the earliest to avoid last-minute complications.
