Andhra Pradesh health officials ordered to scale up preparations for 2027 Godavari Pushkaram

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav convened a review meeting to assess preparedness for the Godavari Pushkaram scheduled for 2027, emphasizing the need for extensive planning to manage potential health risks during the mass pilgrimage event. The minister stressed that all government agencies must prioritize rigorous monitoring systems across multiple critical areas to ensure public safety during the gathering.

Key focus areas identified during the review include stringent oversight of drinking water quality, food safety standards, and surveillance for communicable diseases. The minister directed health department officials to strengthen these monitoring mechanisms well in advance of the event, given the anticipated influx of devotees that typically characterizes Pushkaram celebrations.

Addressing staffing concerns, the Health Minister instructed authorities to expedite recruitment efforts to fill existing vacancies within the health department. Officials were told that adequate human resources would be essential to implement the comprehensive healthcare plan effectively across all designated pilgrimage sites and temporary medical facilities.

The Godavari Pushkaram, held once every 12 years, draws millions of devotees to sacred bathing ghats along the river. State health administrations typically face significant logistical challenges in managing sanitation, disease prevention, and emergency medical services during such large-scale religious gatherings.
