Andhra Pradesh launches women's cricket league to boost female athletes

The Women's Andhra Premier League will feature four teams competing for the inaugural title, marking a significant milestone for women's cricket in the state. According to league organizers, the initiative addresses a long-standing gap in women's sports infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh. To build awareness and generate community support, organizers conducted a "Bikes and Bats" promotional ride through Vijayawada, which drew participation from approximately 100 women riders. The event served as a public demonstration of support for women's cricket and helped amplify the league's message across the city.

The league represents part of a broader effort to expand women's participation in organized sports across South Asia, where cricket has traditionally been male-dominated.
