Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan inaugurated six urban forests on Wednesday, marking a significant expansion of Andhra Pradesh's Nagaravanam programme. The new green spaces have been established at Bapatla, Chirala, Kotappakonda, Vinukonda, Piduguralla and Macherla, collectively spanning 304.60 hectares.
Developed at a total investment of ₹13 crore, the six newly inaugurated Nagaravanams bring the state's urban forest count to 25. These initiatives are part of the state government's broader environmental strategy to create green spaces within urban and semi-urban areas.
During the inauguration event, Kalyan emphasised the importance of leveraging these urban forests for eco-tourism development. The Nagaravanam programme aims to balance urbanisation with environmental sustainability while creating opportunities for nature-based tourism across the state.
The initiative aligns with growing efforts across India's states to develop urban green infrastructure. Nagaravanams serve multiple purposes, including improved air quality, recreational spaces for residents, and potential economic benefits through responsible tourism activities.
