Andhra Pradesh pollution board cracks down on Nellore rice mills

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has intensified its focus on industrial emissions from rice mills operating in Nellore district, cautioning operators about regulatory requirements and potential penalties for non-compliance.

During an awareness session with mill owners, an APPCB Environmental Engineer underscored the legal obligations placed on facility operators to implement pollution prevention measures. The official emphasised that emissions from rice mills can pose significant risks to public health and the surrounding environment if left unchecked.

Mill owners participating in the meeting were briefed on emission standards and the equipment required to meet regulatory thresholds. The APPCB indicated that facilities found violating pollution control norms would face monetary penalties as part of enforcement action.

The advisory comes as rice milling remains a major industrial activity in the Nellore region. The APPCB has positioned the awareness drive as an opportunity for mill operators to voluntarily ensure compliance before inspections are intensified.
