Daily power demand in Andhra Pradesh has climbed to 290 megaunits, reflecting growing consumption across the state, according to Energy Minister Ravi Kumar. The surge underscores the rising need to bolster the state's electricity infrastructure to meet contemporary requirements.
To address the growing demand, the state is pursuing a multi-pronged strategy centred on expanding domestic generation capacity. AP-Genco, the state's principal generating utility, has been tasked with increasing its output to contribute more power to the grid.
Beyond ramping up internal production, the state is also securing additional electricity through alternative procurement channels. These external sources supplement AP-Genco's generation to ensure an uninterrupted and reliable power supply across Andhra Pradesh.
The initiative reflects the state government's commitment to meeting the electricity needs of consumers across residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Officials said the dual approach of boosting state-owned generation while diversifying supply sources aims to sustain consistent power availability.
