Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday pegged the preliminary damage caused by Cyclone Murasu at ₹1,919 crore, as the state grappled with the impact of the second major cyclone to strike the region in recent weeks. The CM announced plans to visit cyclone-affected areas in Bapatla and Guntur districts to conduct on-ground assessments and oversee relief operations.
At least eight persons have died in cyclone-related incidents, according to state officials. The disaster has inflicted severe damage on agricultural infrastructure, with preliminary assessments indicating crop losses across 1.4 lakh hectares, affecting over 1.8 lakh farmers. Horticultural crops have also suffered significant damage.
Following a review of the post-cyclone situation with senior officials late Thursday, CM Naidu directed departments to prioritize relief and restoration efforts. He emphasized the urgent need to restore uninterrupted electricity and drinking water supplies, repair damaged road networks, and ensure that farmers and residents face minimal hardship as the state recovers from back-to-back cyclones—Arnab and Murasu.
The state government has mobilized resources to address immediate humanitarian needs while assessing the full extent of damages to critical infrastructure and livelihoods across affected districts.
