Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has urged the Centre to develop maritime-based economic activities in the state, meeting with Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday to advance the proposal.
During the meeting, Naidu raised multiple priorities including the development of ports across the state, establishment of a terminal at Mulapeta Port, and creation of a shipbuilding centre at Dugarajapatnam. The chief minister emphasised that Andhra Pradesh intends to leverage its extensive coastline to accelerate industrial and commercial growth linked to its port infrastructure.
According to Naidu, developing complementary sectors such as ship repair and marine engineering alongside existing and planned ports would generate significant employment opportunities and attract substantial investment to the region. These initiatives are expected to position the state as a major hub for maritime industries in the country.
The proposed development of Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district holds particular significance for North Andhra, Naidu noted, as it would substantially enhance commercial activities in the region and contribute to broader economic growth.
