Andhra Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has tasked the state Fisheries Department with drafting a new insurance cover scheme specifically designed for fishing boats operating in the region's coastal waters. The proposed state-level policy is intended to provide financial protection to fisherfolk against losses from accidents, weather-related damages, and other maritime risks.
Kalyan stressed the urgency of completing the insurance policy framework, emphasizing the need for swift action to shield the fishing community from economic hardship. The move reflects growing recognition among state authorities of the vulnerabilities faced by fishermen who depend on their vessels for survival.
In addition to the insurance initiative, the Deputy Chief Minister has prioritized accelerating work on the Uppada sea protection wall, a critical coastal infrastructure project aimed at preventing erosion and protecting settlements. He has also directed officials to expedite the reconstruction of a beach road that was washed away, highlighting his administration's focus on maritime infrastructure resilience.
The convergence of these measures signals the state government's broader commitment to strengthening coastal security and supporting the fishing sector through both risk management and infrastructure development.
