Andhra Pradesh to launch ₹11,085 crore rural development drive

Andhra Pradesh will launch its third phase of the Palle Panduga rural development initiative on September 29, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan presiding over the ceremony at Ramapuram in Nellore district. The programme, carrying an outlay of ₹11,085 crore, aims to transform rural infrastructure and livelihoods across the state.

The comprehensive initiative encompasses an extensive range of developmental works. The state will undertake construction and upgradation of 15,500 kilometres of rural roads, while simultaneously executing water management infrastructure including 1,000 kilometres of Magic Drains—modern drainage systems designed to manage water flow and prevent flooding. Additionally, the programme includes development of 22,000 Mini Gokulams, traditionally styled water bodies that serve both aesthetic and functional purposes in rural communities.

Agriculture and horticulture form a significant component of the initiative. The programme allocates resources for horticultural plantations spanning 50,000 acres, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and providing alternative income sources to rural farmers. These interventions are intended to address multiple development challenges simultaneously, from rural connectivity to water security and agricultural prosperity.

Palle Panduga, which translates to a festival in villages, reflects the state government's approach to rural development as a comprehensive celebration of rural prosperity. The third phase represents a continued commitment to infrastructure augmentation in villages and smaller towns across Andhra Pradesh, building on achievements from previous phases of the initiative.
