Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced that Andhra Pradesh will begin quantum computing operations in Amaravati from February 3, 2027, marking a significant milestone in the state's technology ambitions. The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to position Andhra Pradesh as a leading destination for advanced research and innovation in South Asia.
To oversee the development and implementation of this quantum computing facility, the state plans to establish a Pan-IIT World Council headquartered in Amaravati. The council will serve as an advisory body to guide curriculum reforms across educational institutions and foster a robust ecosystem for technology startups and mentorship programmes.
The proposed council is expected to leverage expertise from India's premier Indian Institutes of Technology to support the state's broader vision of becoming a global knowledge hub. By coordinating with leading academic institutions, the initiative aims to attract research talent and technology companies to the region.
The quantum computing centre represents one of several transformative projects being pursued by the Andhra Pradesh government as it seeks to diversify its economy beyond traditional sectors. The project aligns with India's growing focus on emerging technologies and positions the state to compete globally in high-value technology sectors.
