District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad has instructed officials from the Maritime Board and Fisheries Department to develop an action plan for upgrading Kakinada Fishing Harbour and the adjoining Kumbabhishekam fish landing facility, according to administrative sources in Andhra Pradesh.
The modernisation project is intended to improve operational efficiency and infrastructure at both locations, which serve as critical points for the region's fishing industry. The collector's directive comes as part of broader efforts to strengthen maritime infrastructure in the district.
Officials from the relevant departments have been tasked with identifying specific upgrades needed at the facilities, including potential improvements to landing infrastructure, storage capabilities, and operational systems. The action plan is expected to outline timelines and resource requirements for implementing the improvements.
Kakinada, located in East Godavari district, is one of Andhra Pradesh's major fishing hubs. The harbour and fish landing centres play a vital role in supporting local fishing communities and facilitating maritime trade in the region.
