Andhra Pradesh transport workers demand return of cashless medical scheme

Staff members of APSRTC have formally sought the restoration of a cashless medical referral system that was previously operational, citing difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities under the present framework. The scheme had enabled employees to obtain medical treatment at designated hospitals without immediate out-of-pocket expenses, reducing financial burden during medical emergencies.

Workers argue that the discontinuation of the system has created administrative bottlenecks and forced them to bear upfront costs for treatment before seeking reimbursement. This has particularly affected lower-wage employees who lack sufficient savings to cover medical expenses independently.

The transport corporation's management has not yet responded publicly to the restoration demand. The issue underscores broader concerns among state transport sector employees regarding employee benefits and working conditions, which have faced scrutiny amid organizational restructuring efforts.

APSRTC officials are expected to review the employee grievances and evaluate the feasibility of reinstating the medical referral arrangement.
