Andhra regulator to reroute heavy vehicles from Vizag port, steel plant
The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has announced measures to divert heavy-vehicle traffic away from major industrial facilities in Visakhapatnam in a bid to reduce air and noise pollution in the region.

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) is implementing a traffic diversion strategy targeting heavy vehicles serving Visakhapatnam port and the integrated steel plant to mitigate pollution levels across the industrial hub. The move comes as the board addresses growing concerns over deteriorating air quality and environmental degradation in the port city, which hosts some of India's largest industrial operations. Heavy commercial vehicles, including cargo trucks and tankers, contribute significantly to vehicular emissions and have long been identified as a major source of pollution in densely populated industrial areas. By rerouting such traffic away from congested routes serving the port and steel facility, the APPCB aims to reduce particulate matter concentrations and improve overall environmental conditions in surrounding residential zones. The initiative is expected to complement existing pollution control measures and coordinate with port and industrial authorities to establish alternative transportation corridors that minimize exposure to residential communities while maintaining operational efficiency.
