Maheswaram Bhanu Chandhar, a researcher from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, has achieved a remarkable feat of miniaturisation by developing a functional wind turbine that weighs a single gram and spans just eight millimetres in length. The micro-turbine has been formally recognised in the International Book of Records, marking a significant milestone in micro-engineering.
Chandhar fabricated the turbine using simple yet precise materials: copper sheets, a small DC motor, and enamel paint. Despite its diminutive size, the device operates silently and generates measurable power output. The researcher's approach demonstrates that sophisticated engineering breakthroughs do not always require complex materials or expensive equipment.
The potential applications for such a miniature turbine extend far beyond conventional power generation. Chandhar envisions the technology being deployed in space missions, where weight constraints are critical, and in robotics, where compact power sources could enhance functionality and reduce overall device dimensions.
