Animal welfare group condemns viral videos of restrained bird

Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) has issued a statement denouncing the treatment shown in the viral clips, describing the conduct as unjustifiable cruelty toward the bird. The videos, which circulated on Facebook, capture a restrained avian with its beak secured with tape as someone verbally reprimands the animal, with the bird heard shrieking throughout the footage.

Animal welfare advocates have expressed alarm at the treatment, noting that such physical restraint and psychological distress can cause significant harm to birds. ACRES highlighted that the behaviour breaches fundamental standards of animal care and protection, emphasising that there is no legitimate justification for subjecting animals to such conditions.

The incident has reignited discussions about animal welfare standards and the responsibility of pet owners in Singapore. Authorities and animal protection groups continue to monitor such cases and encourage members of the public to report instances of suspected animal cruelty. ACRES has urged people to prioritise the wellbeing of animals in their care and to seek proper guidance on humane animal handling practices.
