The Vishwa Prani Kalyana Mandali and Pashu Pranibali Nirmoolana Mahasangha, an animal welfare organisation, has formally petitioned the district administration and police to intervene and stop ritual animal killings at the religious fair held in Tabakada Honnihalli.
Dayanand Swami, president of the organisation, submitted the appeal citing concerns over animal cruelty during the festival celebrations. The fair, traditionally attended by large crowds, runs until November 12 and has historically been associated with animal sacrifice practices.
Animal welfare groups have increasingly sought police and administrative action across Karnataka to prevent such practices during religious and cultural events. The intervention follows growing awareness of animal protection laws and mounting pressure from conservation advocates.
The Dharwad district administration has not yet issued a formal response to the appeal. Police officials indicated they would coordinate with district authorities to determine appropriate preventive measures for the festival period.
