Annamayya district sees overnight rainfall relief despite monsoon deficit

Overnight rainfall brought temporary respite to Annamayya district in Andhra Pradesh, with precipitation distributed across the region's administrative divisions. Twenty-five mandals reported an average rainfall of 41 mm during the single night spell, providing relief to parched agricultural areas and water reserves across the district.

Three mandals—Valmikipuram, Rayachoti, and Mulakalacheruvu—recorded the highest precipitation during the overnight downpour. The localized concentration of rainfall underscores the uneven distribution of monsoon moisture across the district during this season.

Despite the overnight relief, Annamayya district's cumulative monsoon deficit remains acute at 51 percent, indicating that the region has received significantly less rainfall than its historical average for this period. The substantial shortfall raises concerns about agricultural production and water availability in the coming weeks.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued light to moderate rainfall across the Rayalaseema region, which includes Annamayya district, extending through October 9. Weather officials suggest that these projected showers may provide additional moisture to the drought-affected area, though the cumulative deficit indicates that multiple rainfall events will be necessary to restore normal seasonal precipitation levels.
